The Maison du Vieux Paris, located in the heart of the marais, on the Ile de la Cité, near Notre Dame de Paris, was built in 1512, at the completion of the Cathedral. She then housed the Canon of Notre Dame de Paris. After being the Abode for nearly six months of a Canon who was one of the popes of Avignon (Clement VIII), it was sold by the Bishopric in 1723 to become a wine bar, as evidenced by the entry grid of wine merchant, listed in the inventory of Historic Monuments. It is therefore one of the oldest restaurants in Paris since it has hardly changed activity since then.
Today, there are very few old houses of this type (3 or 4), including the neighboring house which still belongs to the Bishopric of Paris and where the present Canon of Notre Dame remains, Bishop of Paris JACQUIN.
Under the heading of “exceptional tourism”, the Paris City Hall allows unusual floral and vegetal decoration, including a very imposing glycine (7m high by 22m long) … making it a highly photographed place throughout the year and which marries marvelously well with the medieval allure of the complex.
